The American Community Garden Association defines a community garden as any piece of urban, suburban, or rural land that is gardened by a group of individuals. Pasadena Community Gardens recently secured its first garden site through individual contributions and support from organizations like the Pasadena Community Foundation. As the first site is established, the Pasadena Community Gardens has already begun exploring opportunities for additional gardens. Smaller and larger sites will eventually be added to serve a variety of Pasadena neighborhoods. The group’s steering committee will identify future garden sites with the help of resident recommendations and visit public and private locations to determine whether they can serve as community gardens.
